Gunnery Sgt. U.S.M.C Ret. Donald Keith Roberts

POLAND – Donald K. Roberts, 89 of Poland died Monday, Aug. 2, 2021, at his home.He was born in Altoona, Pa., on March 6, 1932, the only child of George A. and Alberta (Bradley) Roberts. He attended 16 years of school, Our Lady of Victory Academy in Lackawanna, N.Y. class of 1950. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1950, he served his country Korea, Cuba and in Vietnam. He married the love of his life, Louise Lothrop Roberts, and together raised four children. He is survived by his daughters, Patricia A. Hall (Scott) of Poland, Mary Jane Connolly (Bill) of Northford, Conn., and son, Donald A. Roberts (Angela) of Poland; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; his oldest daughter, Donna L., predeceased him in 1970. After retirement in 1972, he built a barn and spent many years raising Columbia Sheep, sharing them at fairs with his son. Even sharing them in Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky. In later years his greatest enjoyment was meeting his good friend, Richard Rossi, for coffee. Donald was also a member of the Mechanic Falls, Poland and Minot Lions Club. He authorized the purchase of many pairs of glasses for the local residents. His friend Dr. Murch provided the glasses at minimum cost to the Lions. He was a member of the Marine Corps League, Marine Corps Devildogs, and a board member of the Poland Health Center. His family remembers him as a generous, selfless, hardworking loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and a loyal friend. Special thanks for the loving attention provided by Paulette and Kelsie.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, August 12, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Ransom, 117 Elm Street, Mechanic Falls with interment to follow with military honors at Maple Grove Cemetery in Mechanic Falls. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Arrangements are under the care of Chandler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 26 W. Dwinal Street, Mechanic Falls.
