Rumford Dance and Sports Wear opened Monday and has already seen a fair amount of visitors, said owner Linda Russell of Canton. The store at 41 Exchange St. carries many types of active wear, including leotards, tights, spandex, wrap skirts, unitards, bike shorts, bags and hats, and ballet, tap and jazz shoes. Russell said the idea for the business came to her because of her daughters. “My two girls took dance for two years. They and all of the other students had to go all the way to Portland for their dancewear and shoes,” she said. Russell started her business through the Workforce Development Center in Wilton. Russell said the Greater Rumford Community Center has spoken with her about ordering through her store.
