AUBURN — The Lewiston/Auburn Community Little Theatre plans to host its inaugural Race to the Stage 5K, an untimed fun run at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2.

This 3.1-mile event will begin and end at the theater’s 30 Academy St. home. Along the course, theater members will appear in costume to entertain and encourage participants.

Basic registration, open through Sept. 30, starts at $10 for youth and $15 for adults via laclt.com. Premium registration, which was open through Sept. 1, included a commemorative event T-shirt.

“This is a very family friendly event,” said CLT President John Blanchette, according to a news release from the theater. “Anyone who knows me knows that I am not a runner, but I will at least be walking it. And if I can do it, anybody can do it.”

The theater aims to engage local families, runners, walkers, and friends of the theater interested in supporting local arts. When registering, participants have the option to set a personal fundraising goal and set up their own fundraising page to collect donations and pledges in support of theater’s upcoming 82nd season.

Events like this 5K are what enable the theater to annually produce five main-stage shows and two youth/teen productions, as well as provide educational programs to people of all ages in Lewiston/Auburn. Those who wish to contribute without participating in the race can donate online at laclt.com.

According to theater board member and development committee member Becca Tinkham, “this event is not only a small step back into entertaining each other, but also a fundraising endeavor to help alleviate some of the financial stress our theater has experienced due to the COVID-19 pandemic closure.”
