100 Years Ago: 1921

A very interesting program will be given Thursday evening at the next regular meeting of Stevens Mills Grange. It is expected that the boys’ quartet will furnish music, and Roland Cayer will give a violin solo. A grange paper will also be given and several readings.

50 Years Ago: 1971

As always, members of the Taylor Pond Yacht Club enjoyed a full program of social activities over the Labor Day Weekend, climaxed by the annual clambake with a presentation of awards, on Monday. On Sunday evening a cocktail party and dance took place at Lost Valley Lodge. Weekend activities opened with a family party at the Yacht Club Saturday noon, with Mrs. Thomas Shields as chairman.

25 Years Ago: 1996

Dawn Kirby, of Rumford, a member of the Tally-Ho Horse Club, earned a spot on the Maine 4-H Horse Team for competition in the Big E Fair in West Springfield, Mass. She qualified for a spot on the team by competing at the tryouts at Maine 4-H Days held at the Fryeburg Fairgrounds in July. She and other Maine youngsters will compete against the riders from each of the New England states. Dawn was named the 9th member of the team of 16 with her horse, Missiles Elegance. During the Maine 4-H Days tryouts, she was assisted by Shel Dias, also of Rumford. The Big E competition is the highest level of competition for 4-H members.
