The third annual Deputy Dennis P. Sampson 5K Walk/Run, in memory of the Androscoggin County officer of that name, is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 19.

The event will begin at Poland Spring Inn, 650 Main St. Registration begins at 7 a.m. with an 8:30 a.m. start time.

Sampson died unexpectedly in 2018 while off-duty at his Poland residence.

The cost prior to Friday, Sept. 17, is $20 for adults, $10 for ages 6-17, and free for those 5 and younger. After Sept. 17, the cost is $25 for adults, $15 for ages 6-17, and free for those 5 and younger.

T-shirts will be available for $25.

Funds raised will be used for a scholarship to a graduating Poland Regional High School student entering the first responders field (law enforcement, police, fire, rescue, and EMS). Sampson spent a lot of time in the schools and on occasion students job shadowed with him.
