Roger P. Gosselin

AUBURN – Roger P. Gosselin, 87, a longtime resident of Sabattus Street, Lewiston, died Thursday Sept. 16, 2021, with his loving family at his side at Clover Manor. Born on April 8, 1934, the son of Arthur and Delia Hamel Gosselin. Roger graduated St. Dominic Regional High School in 1952 which would begin a deep affinity and loyalty to the school that included his coordination of the St. Dom’s 50th anniversary in 1991 and watching his two boys and two oldest grandchildren graduate from St. Doms which made three generations of St. Dom’s alumni. Roger enlisted in the U.S. Army in July of 1960 and learned skills as a medic. When he returned from the service he met the love of his life, Laurette Carrier. They just recently celebrated 50 years of marriage in April 2020. Together they would have two children, Jeff and Scott. Roger’s proudest years were working as the manager of DeOrsey’s Record Shops. Music held a special place in his heart as he loved nothing more than reading a good biography or listening to operas from his vast collection and especially those sung by Maria Callas. Roger lived his life with three things at its core: Faith, family and Franco-American culture. He was fun loving, happy and derived great pleasure teasing his co-workers and his family. Roger would answer to “Uncle Cookie” “Pepere” “Smiley” and “Rog”. Roger and Laurette made many close friendships that persist to this day. His life with his wife Laurette was a perfect example of true love to both family and friends. In his final moments, Roger waited for his wife to be by his side before he passed into the Lord’s arms. Roger’s fun loving, kind and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all. Roger would like to thank Sharon Davis, his caregivers at Clover Manor Limerick Unit and Galway Unit, as well as those from Androscoggin Home Healthcare and Hospice for trying to give him the autonomy he needed and to finish his life with dignity and peace. Roger is survived by his wife, Laurette; his son, Jeffrey and wife Kathy, his son, Scott and wife Muriel; their seven grandchildren, Ben, Matt, Mackenzie, Madison, Joshua, Elijah and Delia; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by both of his parents Arthur and Delia Gosselin; his brothers Roland Gosselin, Arthur Gosselin and Armand Gosselin, and his sister, Theresa Giem.
