Charles Lloyd McKenna
RUMFORD – Charles L. McKenna, 83, of Rumford (formerly of Bloomfield P.E.I.) passed away peacefully on Wednesday Oct. 6, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 2, 1938 in Alberton, P.E.I., the son of Rosetta (Alyward) and Alfred McKenna. He attended schools in P.E.I. He moved to Rumford in 1961 where he met and later married the love of his life, Shirley (Hoyt) McKenna on July 27, 1963 at St. Athanasius and St. John Church.He worked for many years at Ladd Farms retiring in 1993. He was a communicant of The Holy Savior Church and lived a life of daily devotion and prayer. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, hiking, and farming. He also enjoyed going to the fairs, lawn sales, going on scenic drives, listening to country music, playing cards, sipping on a hot cup of tea, and family gatherings.His most recent trip to Cabbage Island was the highlight of his summer. He loved going (home) every year to P.E.I. to visit his loving family. He didn’t have much use for material possessions; his family was his greatest treasure.He was a loving father to his six daughters, Debra Blaisdell of Mexico, Brenda Hoyt of Rumford, Nancy Martineau of Rumford, Marilyn Hume of Rumford, Lisa (Jeff) Dayon of Rumford, Crystal (Sherwood) Pingree of Roxbury. He had 17 grandchildren, Michele, Ryan, Jolene, Jamie, Derek, Debbie, Kristian, Brandon, Pamela, Shawna, Travis, Nathan, Ryan, Kera, Corey, Jeremy and Troy; several great-grandchildren; and his little best friend, Mila Rose who he looked forward to spending his days with. He was blessed to have three great-granddaughters born on his birthday, Gracie, Layla, and Claire; special caregiver and loving granddaughter, Kera Marie; siblings Grace Walsh, Barbara Poirier, Roy (Helen) McKenna, Carol Mckenna, Leonard McKenna (also his best friend), all of P.E.I.He was predeceased by his loving wife, Shirley; his parents; siblings Rosetta (George) Gallant of B.C., Harold (Ati) McKenna of B.C., Gerald (Thelma) McKenna of Bryant Pond, Earl (Irene) McKenna of B.C., Claude (Mae) McKenna of P.E.I., Willard McKenna of P.E.I., Alfred (Joyce) McKenna of Rumford, Roberta (Jerry) Gillis of Ont., CA.; three brothers-in-law, Robert Walsh, Buddy McKenna, and Joseph Poirier, one sister-in-law, Debbie McKenna.In true Dad “Charlie” fashion, he would always say, “ALL THE BEST!”
