AFCI
The Age-Friendly Community serves residents of Bethel, Gilead, Greenwood, Hanover, Newry, and Woodstock. Our N2N (Neighbor to Neighbor) Rides Program is in full swing, transporting residents over 65 years old who cannot drive. That’s for any destination in our catchment area: medical appointments, shopping, classes, church services, hair-dresser, or to visit a friend or go to a movie. Contact us if you need a ride – or if you’d like to join our awesome crew of fully-vetted drivers.

Health
There‘s lots of talk these days about COVID booster shots. The CDC tells us that boosters – at least 6 months after initial vaccination – are recommended for those at high risk, including those over 65 years old. Moderna boosters have just been approved; watch for their availability locally.
Tele-health: it didn’t mean as much a couple of years ago as it does now, after our COVID shut-downs. Do you have a story about how you benefitted from some tele-health experience last year? How did your internet strength hold up? Did you, like me, lose your internet service for many days recently? Send us a story; our voices may be quite compelling to the statewide commission that is allocating significant money for broadband expansion in rural Maine.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
You can read more here about our commenting policy and terms of use. More information is also found on our FAQs.
