Lionel R. Charest

LEWISTON – Lionel “Nel” Charest, 85, of Lewiston, passed away on Oct. 17, 2021, at Montello Commons after a prolonged illness. He was born in Lewiston, Dec. 19, 1935, the son of Leo and Aurore Gregoire Charest. He graduated from St. Dominic High School, where he excelled in baseball, football and starred on all four state championship ice hockey teams. Prior to his retirement, he was founder and co-owner of Bix Furniture Company. He enjoyed wintering in Florida and cherished being a father, grandfather and great-grandfather. As an avid sports fan, he attended as many of their athletic events as he could and followed the Bruins, Red Sox and Patriots faithfully. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Patricia Tourigny Charest who passed away in 1998, and second wife, Pauline T. Charest who passed away in 2016. He is survived by a daughter, Diana Stevens and her husband Frank of Annandale, Va., a son, John Charest and his wife Cindy of Sutton, Mass., five grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, a brother, Laurier of Lewiston, and most recently his devoted companion, Yvette Rousseau also of Lewiston.
