
G. Virgil Tilton
BUCKFIELD – G. Virgil Tilton, 71, of Buckfield died peacefully at his home on Nov. 5, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was born in Norway, Maine on Sept. 29, 1950, to Gilbert and Helen Tilton. He graduated from Buckfield High School in 1968 and went on to AMSC where he studied business. He is best known for all his years behind the counter as owner of Tilton’s Market and as a Buckfield postal worker. Virgil was often referred to as the “Unofficial Mayor of Buckfield,” where he lived his entire life in a community filled with family and friends. He could always be relied on for a helping hand or a funny story and was famous for a smile that lit up the room. He will be greatly missed by the many who knew and loved him.Virgil was predeceased by his first wife Rita Bisbee as well as sister Frances Hale and her husband Worden. He is survived by the three children he shared with Rita and their families: Steven and his wife Michelle, Angela and her wife Amy, and youngest Everett, as well as two granddaughters, Rebekah and Emily. He is also survived by his devoted wife Peggy by whom he gained two stepsons and their families: Kyle and his wife Kara, Chris and his significant other Meagan, and five grandchildren, Jensen, Ashton, Khloe, Ryder, and Mallory. He will also be missed by his loving sister Rossie Kyllonen, her husband John, and nephew Jonathan, along with many other nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 13th from 4-6 p.m., at Chandler Funeral Home, 45 Main St., South Paris. Funeral services will take place on Sunday, November 14th at 2 p.m., at Buckfield High School.
