Yvette M. Flaherty

RUMFORD – Our precious mom, Yvette M. Flaherty, 97 years young died Monday November 8, 2021 at the Rumford Hospital. We were with her, and I know she enjoyed us reminiscing and talking with each other. She resided on Lincoln Ave in Rumford.Yvette was born in Rumford, on March 1, 1924 and was the daughter of Francis and Phelemene (Thiboutot) Duval. She attended Rumford Schools and worked for Oxford paper Company in Rumford on the paper machines. In her younger years she enjoyed working in her beautiful gardens, playing cards with the girls, sitting in her water chair getting a suntan. In her older years she enjoyed volunteering at the Senior Center, and the Rumford Hospital in the X-ray and pediatric departments. She also enjoyed her gossip shows, trips to the casino with her daughters, stays at the condo at Old Orchard Beach, and watching Christmas movies on the Hallmark channel. She got to have all three of her children in her home at the same time quite often, and frequent visits from her grandkids and great grandkids. She was loved by everyone who knew her for her humor, swearing, sassy personality, always dressed beautifully, and most of all her hair … she fixed it first thing every morning.Yvette was a Communicant of the Parish of the Holy Savior St Athanasius St John Church, she loved to knit, cook, and decorate for the holidays. She was an avid Red Sox fan and also enjoyed many summers at Roxbury Pond.She was married in Rumford, on Aug. 14, 1949, to Harlan “Slats” Flaherty. Survivors include a son, Mark of Roxbury, daughters, Patricia Lynn Barnett and husband Phil of Portland, Oregon, Janet Ann Provencher of Mexico, grandchildren, Carey Flaherty and wife Karen of New York, Tamara Gunter and husband Jeff of Vancouver, Wash., Erin Provencher of Auburn and Yaicha Provencher of Poland, and eight great grandchildren.Friends and family are invited to sign the online guest book and share memories with the family at http://www.meaderandson.com.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12 Noon on Monday Dec. 13, 2021, at the Parish of The Holy Savior St Athanasius St John Church.
