Omer A. Canuel

LEWISTON – Omer A. Canuel, 90, passed away peacefully at CMMC after a short illness, surrounded by the warmth of his loved ones on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021. He was born on Jan. 21, 1931, in Lewiston, the son of the late Carmen (Berube) and Omer J. Canuel. He was educated in Lewiston schools. He welcomed his only child, a daughter, Lil (Canuel) Morin in December 1948. Omer enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952 and retired as a Staff Sergeant after 20 years of serving his country. During his retirement, Omer spent his time helping other people in many different ways. He truly cherished his time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Omer enjoyed keeping up on current events via watching the news and reading the newspaper daily from front to back, and most times twice. He looked forward to watching the Wheel of Fortune in the evenings and old TV shows. He had a love of music his entire life. Omer married Theresa Bilodeau in 1982 and his family grew with the addition of her five children and their children. Omer and Terry liked going dancing together earlier in their relationship and often played the board game “Heaven” with Lil and her husband Marcel. In summary, in the words of Frank Sinatra, Omer lived his life the only way he knew how, “My Way”.

Omer is survived by his beloved daughter Lil Morin and her husband Marcel; his sister Muriel Minkowsky; his brother Roland Canuel and wife Anita; his four grandchildren: Michael Morin, Greg Morin, Tim Morin and Amy Morin; his granddaughters-in-law: Jennifer Townes Morin, Holly Fisher Morin and Sarah Stewart Morin; his seven great-grandchildren: Dylan Morin and his wife Maegan, Mason Morin and his longtime girlfriend Sarah Chaput, TJ Morin, Reese Morin, Katie Morin, Lilyanna Gaddy and Ally Morin; as well as many nieces and nephews; his stepchildren: Cathy Czarnecki and her husband Mark, Raymond Bilodeau and his wife Carol, Donald Bilodeau and his wife Brenda, Jo-Ann Brown and her husband Ray and Lorie Sutton in addition to many bonus grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents; his sister Jeannine Monier and her husband Al; his brother Roger and his wife Jean, his great-grandson Spencer Morin, his granddaughter Dawna Bilodeau, his brother-in-law Carroll Minkowsky and his nephew Gary Lajoie.
