Margaret Theresa (Golden) Thibault

DOVER-FOXCROFT/ROXBURY – Margaret Theresa (Golden) Thibault, 82, widow of Stephen G. Thibault, died Dec. 9, 2021, at Hibbards Skilled Nursing Center, Dover-Foxcroft. She was born on Dec. 2, 1939, in Brewer, the daughter of Daniel and Mildred (Kennedy) Golden. She was raised in Bangor by Margaret (Golden) and Clifford A. Patten.Margaret graduated from John Bapst High School in 1958. She was a certified surgical scrub tech/first assistant and worked at St Joseph’s Hospital in Bangor, in several hospitals in Aroostook County and from 1970 until her retirement (over 35 years) at Rumford Community Hospital. Through the years Margaret was vital in the education and skill development of fellow scrub techs, nurses and doctors (including her daughter) by sharing her knowledge and passion for the operating room. She also traveled with a volunteer plastic surgical team to South America to perform reconstructive surgery on pediatric patients for many years.Margaret and Stephen married on Sept. 28, 1963, in Bangor. They lived in Van Buren and Presque Isle until moving to Rumford where Stephen owned and operated S.G. Thibault Funeral Home. After retirement they moved to Roxbury Pond and lived in the beautiful home that they built.Whether you knew her as Mrs. T. or Nana or Margaret, you definitely remember her generosity. Family and friends meant everything to her. She was always up for a good time and could turn any gathering into a party. A Friday night at the funeral home (where she lived with Steve and Kathleen) the Worthings, Pineaus, Leo, Pauline, Nancy or Joey would congregate or Irish night at Saint Michael’s College with Kathleen’s college friends’ parents – the Lavenders, Meolas and Junjulas – Margaret would have a Manhattan in hand and shared her love of life with all. Once you became a friend of Margaret, you were a friend for life – as the Zimmermans, Smiths, and friends from St Joseph’s Hospital or even from her days at John Bapst could attest.Holidays were very important to her. Easters were spent with her sister, Norah, and family. It would not be uncommon for 40 or more people to be at the Thibault’s house for Thanksgiving meals. The 4th of July parties were the highlight of Margaret’s summer at their house on Roxbury Pond– spending time with Michael Fraser, Doris and Earl, Bill and Arilla, and Beeb and Barb. However, Christmas was Margaret’s favorite time of the year. Her generosity was at its height in her gift giving and the famous candy boxes that she made annually. Some people are not aware of this, but Margaret knew Santa personally and would even be seen driving him from house to house before Christmas to make sure that Santa would be able to find her little friends on Christmas Eve.Margaret also loved to travel – trips to Las Vegas with Alan and Marcia or to Ireland with Norah and George. Her greatest joy of all was her family. She was so proud of her daughter, Kathleen, and her grandchildren, Mitchell, Matthew David and Meghan Leigh. She was in attendance at every play, sporting event, and recital that she could make. She opened her home to her bother-in-law, Douglas, and her nieces and nephews, Lynne, Aprel, Butch, Joanie and Jimmy, Beth, Scott and Jimmie John, Paul and Nicole, and especially Myra and Myja. Margaret’s heart was so large that she even “adopted” some children along the way – her daughter, Kelly, and sons, Scott, Jeff, and James.Margaret was a communicant of the Holy Savior and Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Churches.She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Kathleen Thibault and her husband Matt Spooner and their children, Matthew David and Meghan Leigh; her oldest grandson, Mitchell Fraser; her daughter, Kelly Hotham Ellis and her husband Todd; her sister, Norah Predaris and her husband George; her sister, Mary Golden; her sister-in-law, Lori Thibault; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Stephen; her parents; and a sister, Joanne Furrough.Friends are invited to call 4 – 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Saviors Parish – St Athanasius/St John’s Church in Rumford with interment at St Athanasius/St John’s Cemetery in the Spring; date to be announced. After calling hours on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021 a gathering will be held at Chew62 in Dover-Foxcroft from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Please join Margaret’s family to celebrate her life.Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
