Joyce P. Farwell
LEWISTON – Joyce P. Farwell, 80, formerly of Dixfield, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2021.
She was born August 31, 1941 in Dixfield, the daughter of Hubert and Alfa (Rand) Palmer. She attended and graduated Dixfield schools and took classes at University of Maine-Farmington (formerly Farmington Teacher’s College). She loved the Dixfield community and worked for a time at Nash’s Market. She married Willard Porter Farwell Jr. of Bethel in 1961.
They enjoyed many great years together raising their family and enjoying each other’s company. She later provided loving care and support of Willard through an illness of many years. From this time, Joyce realized that she would like to continue to help and provide care as she could, leading to a career as a CNA and continuing as a traveling home health aide.
Her real joy and passion was being a loving wife, caring mother, and adoring grandmother. She attended many of her sons’ sporting events and other activities, most times bringing along her mother. She later did the same for her grandchildren. She was also a life-long Red Sox fan, and attended many games at Fenway Park with her family.
Joyce loved to socialize, being a member of the Red Hat Society, the Rumford Senior Citizens, and the Tuesday Girls Group. Many travelled together creating memorable fun-loving moments. She also enjoyed going to local fairs for many years. She was also a long time member of the Dixfield Common Baptist Church, and we give special thanks to their thoughtfulness and support along with her other neighbors of the area.
Joyce is survived by three sons, Scott Farwell and his wife Linda of Windsor, Patrick Farwell of Lewiston, and Shane Farwell and his wife Stacy of Saco; five grandchildren, Gabrielle, Quinn, Noah, Jackson, and Amanda; great-grandson, Rory; and two brothers, Hubert and Brian Palmer.
She was predeceased by her parents Hubert and Alfa; husband, Willard Porter Farwell Jr.; and several aunts and uncles including aunt, Mary Rand.
A graveside service will be held during warmer weather next spring at the Riverside Cemetery, Dixfield tentatively on May 16, 2022. Online condolences may be shared with her family at http://www.sgthibaultfuneralhome.com
Arrangements are with S.G. Thibault Funeral Home, Penobscot Street, Rumford.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society or National MS Society.
