UPDATED 12:19 P.M. FRIDAY: Auburn declared a parking ban will be in effect from 6 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday.

UPDATED NOON FRIDAY: After temperatures reached as high as 50 overnight in Maine, winter returns Friday with gusty winds and falling temperatures. A wind advisory has been issued for interior areas with sustained winds from 10 mph to 25 mph and localized gusts up to 55 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Areas to the south of the mountains could have wind gusts from 25 mph to 35 mph.

The NWS warns gusty winds will can bring down tree limbs, and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles, according to the NWS.

After a day of strong wind gusts Friday, much of northern New England is set to see its first significant snowfall of the season this weekend.

Half a foot of snow is possible in most of southern and central Maine, and eastern and northern parts of the state could get a little bit less.

The snow is expected to start falling Saturday afternoon in most of New Hampshire, the National Weather Service said. Much of the state also could see up to 8 inches of snow, but some spots south and east of Manchester were expected to get more of a wintry mix of precipitation.
