Gaetano V. Giammarco

SARASOTA, Fla. – Gaetano V. Giammarco “Danny” passed from this life on Dec. 10, 2021. He was born on Feb. 6, 1933 in Providence, R.I. to Salvatore M. Giammarco and Elizabeth (Bakos) Giammarco.

He was the husband of Jean, the love of his life, who preceded him in death two years ago.

Danny had been one of many young men who had been drafted while still in high school and served as a Marine during the Korean Conflict.

Upon returning from active duty, he finished his education. He attended Providence College where he earned a certificate in medical administration. He, however, became part of four generations of law enforcers by joining the Providence Police Department. He eventually was promoted to detective where he excelled and spent most of his career. After leaving the force, he moved to Cape Cod where he continued his love of detective work by assisting the local police force with instructing future detectives.

Danny loved his family and his work and had a terrific sense of humor. He moved to Florida with his wife where they started a business called Sonny’s Lemonade. They were much loved by their patrons and friends, and they were also part of the local theatre scene.

Danny was a great-grandfather to nine; and a grandfather to seven of which one (Steve) preceded him in death. He leaves behind four children, Douglas, Russell (retired detective), Wendy, and Deborah; as well as his sister, Dr. Elizabeth S. Giammarco; along with a large family of nieces, nephews, cousins and an aunt.

He will be and is greatly missed by all who knew him. Services are private with cremation at the National Cremations in Sarasota, Fla.
