DEAR SUN SPOTS: This last year has been scary because of not knowing if I would have sufficient funding to care for my animals.Like so many other wonderful organizations affected by this world crisis, Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends has been unable to host any fundraising events and unfortunately, our organization was omitted from receiving any stimulus money. This only worsened the hardship for all the animals in our care. Now the Christmas season has arrived and our annual Christmas Bake Sale is canceled because of the pandemic. With the Christmas Bake Sale being canceled, our last year’s alternative, a drive -through bottle pickup is canceled because of the exorbitant gas prices.

However, the owner and operator of Be Be’s Redemption Center at 738 Rt. 202 in Greene suggested an ongoing bottle benefit for Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends. So if anyone is willing to take a ride to Be Be’s and donate on Tommy’s behalf that would be fantastic! They are open Tues. through Sat. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Thurs. they close at 1 p.m.
If anyone has bottles and cans they wish to donate for the feral cats that cross our paths every day, it would be a wonderful wish fulfilled. If you don’t have the bottles and cans that are on the top of our wish list, financial donations are always welcome, desperately needed, and greatly appreciated. We lost our recovery care and are in need of equipment so financial donations would help us in saving lives. If you would like to donate bottles and cans please email me at normblais39@yahoo.com and I can assist in directions for delivery to the bottle redemption center in Greene. Those who wish to make much-needed financial donations can send checks to: Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends at P.O. Box 274, Greene, ME 04236. You can also donate through Pay Pal at https://tommysferalfelinefriends.com/donate/

I would appreciate any kindness and compassion for Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends. My partner and I were injured in an accident that was life-threatening to my partner, so while recovering this past year, we have been unable to prepare fundraisers during the pandemic. We’re desperately trying to catch up and to be able to give the best medical care possible for all our animals.  It’s been unbelievable!– Norm, Greene

ANSWER: I have a special place in my heart for this organization so I hope you’ll contribute to Tommy’s if you can.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In the Dec. 16 Sun Spots a request for quiet, small shopping options was made. One excellent local place close to Mechanic Falls is the Pawsabilities & Fabulous Finds Thrift Shop in Norway. It is operated to benefit the Responsible Pet Care Animal Shelter of Oxford Hills.  The shop is located at 124 Waterford Road (Rt.118) and is open Thurs., Frid., and Saturday.—Janet, Auburn

ANSWER: Thank you for the tip–yet another reason to visit Norway!

I just remembered my granddaughters like to shop at the Androscoggin Hospice Thrift Store in Auburn at 245 Center St., Suite #2. The store is open Tues. through  Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sat. from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
