Patricia Volkernick
BRIGHTON, Mass. – Patricia Volkernick, “Pat”, 81, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2021, at St Elizabeth’s Hospital in Brighton, Mass. Pat lived in Rumford. After retirement she moved to Largo, Florida where she lived for 21 years. On her return to Maine, she resided with her daughter Joanne in Livermore.Born in Chesterville, on May 26, 1940, she was the daughter of Leo and Eleanor (Wheeler) Campbell. She was a graduate of Farmington High School class of 1958. Pat married the love of her life Paul Volkernick Sr. in Dixfield, on Nov. 5, 1960. Pat worked for the telephone company, local shoe shops, Rumford School Department as a secretary, and administrator for the school´s Transportation Department. In retirement, she worked for Arbyś in Largo, Fla., as Assistant Manager for several years. In Largo, Pat met some very nice friends. Her best friend Gabriel Sonnier would go to mass with her, watch the Rays, and she took care of her Buddy with many fond memories. Her friends Richard and Leah Decker were her neighbors in Midway Park. Richard and Pat were partners as vice president and president for the park association for many years. They could also be seen watching the Tampa Bay Rays, as they were avid baseball fans of the Rays. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports. Pat liked to crochet, knit, and bake. She baked the best apple pies ever. On her occasional visits to Maine, she loved family get-togethers and camping with her daughter. She was predeceased by her parents Leo and Eleanor Campbell, husband Paul Volkernick, Sr, sister Fran Scott, and sister Sharon Beatham. She is survived by her daughter Joanne Smith and husband Harry of Livermore, sons Paul, Jr and wife Julie of Rumford, Peter and wife Julie of Rumford, and daughter Mary Fitzgerald and husband Jay of Rumford; a sister, Marie Lucarelli of Farmington; brother Paul Campbell and wife Muriel of Winslow; grandchildren, Harry Smith, III, Jonathan Smith, Eric Volkernick, Christie Volkernick, Derek Volkernick, Adam Volkernick, and Timothy Fitzgerald; great grandchildren, Chloe, Talon and Logan Smith.Friends and family are invited to sign the online guest book and share memories with the family at http://www.meadernadson.com.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Thursday, May 26, 2022 at the Parish of The Holy Savior St Athanasius St John Church in Rumford.
