DEAR SUN SPOTS: I wish to respond to the lady who needs prescription eyeglasses. I have used Zenni Optical for many years now and have never had a problem. Each pair of glasses comes with a cleaning cloth and a repair kit. They don’t take insurance, but their prices are very reasonable. I have a very strong prescription; however, I’ve only bought basic glasses and sunglasses from there. I have never bought bifocals or progressives, so I don’t know how good those are. — Carol, Lewiston

ANSWER: Thank you for the recommendation! Our reader Sharon (Dec. 27 Sun Spots) wants to hear from people who have used these online companies so this is helpful. I hope readers who have ordered bifocals and progressives will respond to let us know about their experiences.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I asked if anyone had a statue of Mother Mary and I heard from several people in Sun Spots Land offering me one. Many people provided photos and some even offered to bring the statue to me. I was so happy with the response and chose two figurines — one for my bedroom and one for my garden! — Lee, no town

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m a senior citizen living by myself. My driveway and steps were very icy earlier in the week and I realized I was out of sand/salt. I’m usually better prepared! I decided to sprinkle some kitty litter on the ice until I could have someone get sand for me.

As I was getting dressed to go outside, I heard a scrapping noise outside the house and there were two teenage boys cleaning off my steps and putting down sand. I couldn’t believe it. I have lived in this house for years and no one has done that for me before. They were gone before I could get out to thank them, but I heard that they helped some other people on the street, too. — Alice, Lewiston

ANSWER: I hope they come back and that they watch over you this winter!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have a VHS player for the person who wrote looking for one. Perhaps she could write again with her contact information. — Stan, Poland
