DEAR SUN SPOTS: I need names and phone numbers for seamstresses in the Lewiston area. I trust you have some in your extensive data base. — No name, no town

ANSWER: This has been a frequent request lately! In the Rolodex, I have Sue Roebuck, Mom the Mender on Upper Street in Turner. Her number is 754-6558. There is also LA Clean & Spin/John’s Clean & Spin — they have 20 years of experience with altering, repairing and restoring clothing. The numbers are 782-3466 in Auburn and 784-9096 in Lewiston.

Another option is Lolita Ateliers (https://lolitaalters.com/), 158 Court St., Suite #14 in the Engine House in Auburn. She is a trained seamstress who does alterations, upcycling, custom designs, gives private lessons and more. You can schedule an appointment through her website or call her at 405-3750. Her hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and Saturday.

Another person who may be able to help you is Dona at If You Say Sew in Durham (https://if-you-say-sew.business.site/?utm_source=gmb&utm_medium=referral). The numver is 653-5507.

I also have Veronica’s Creations in Greene. The hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The number is 514-6820.

Western Maine Machines at 43 Exchange St. in Rumford does sewing machine sales and repairs, and clothing alterations. It’s at 43 Exchange St. in Rumford. The number is 418-0464.

Many dry cleaners have a seamstress on call for clothing repairs and alterations as well. If you have someone to recommend, I want to hear about it!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Rev. Louis J. Fortier Council 106 will host a scrapbook crafting benefit for Coats for Kids from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul Church basement on Bartlett Street in Lewiston. All proceeds go to buy coats for kids in need in the community. 

Cost is $35 per person. There will be snacks, coffee and water. Please bring your own lunch. There will be two free make-and-take projects and a thank you gift for attending.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: What happened to Hannah Dineen on Channel 6? — Gerry, no town

ANSWER: After four and half years with News Center, native Mainer and Colby College graduate Hannah Dineen has joined News Center Maine’s sister station 10 in Tampa Bay in Florida. She told her audience she wanted to have some new challenges and learn in a different environment.

She started her new job this past week! If you’d like to keep in touch with Hannah, she has encouraged her viewers to say hello through her social media pages, which include Facebook.
