HARRISON – The Historic Scribner’s Saw Mill and Homestead site tours are set for 1-4 p.m. Saturday July 2, on Jesse Mill Road. Participants can learn about the “Sash” saw used to cut lumber, how to put together a barrel, exhibits in the Long Shed, the blacksmith operating the forge in the blacksmith shop, and tour the Homestead. The barn and ice houses also are open for self-guided tours.

According to a news release from the homestead, this season volunteers will be finishing the recently raised timber framed that is to serve as an exhibit shed. The shed will hold early items related to the mill that will tell its early history and stories of the mill.

The morning of July 2 volunteers will gather to start moving the equipment into the exhibit shed. Then in the afternoon there will be staff available to tell our visitors how each machine works. One of the machines to be moved is the Box Board Rip Saw. As America was preparing for the fight in Europe, Jesse Scribner was preparing his mill for the war effort. This saw was used to rip standard widths for boxes that would ship the supplies needed overseas, like ammunition.

A $5 donation for each adult is requested. For more information about the mill, visit scribnersmill.org.
