The Sassi Memorial classical Nordic ski race that was scheduled for Saturday at Rumford’s Black Mountain has been called off because of the impending winter storm.

“Due to the fact that the snow is coming in sooner than originally thought, it is better that we postpone this event for the safety of our athletes, coaches, volunteers and fans,” the Chisholm Ski Club posted on its website.

The Black Mountain-based club said it is hoping to reschedule the annual event, which brings teams and skiers from throughout the state. No weekend dates are available, so the club is trying to plan the races for a midweek afternoon, possibly Thursday, Feb. 3, or Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 1:30 p.m.
