DEAR SUN SPOTS: Recently I had a student interested in learning how to sew.  We have only one old machine that does not work very well. I would  like to ask people if they have sewing machines they would like to donate to Regional School Unit 16 Adult Education in Mechanic Falls. It would be greatly appreciated. We are at 129 Elm St. behind the grammar school. I can be contacted at the Adult Education Department at 345-3217. —Terryl-Esther, Mechanic Falls

ANSWER: I hope you get a few good machines that still have some life left in them. Sewing is a good skill to have!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: We sew and quilt at the Ricker Memorial Library at 1211 Maine St. in Poland every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and would love to have new people join us.

I’m also starting a sewing group at the Sixth Street Congregational Church on Monday afternoons. All are very welcome to attend. There is no charge for either group. For more information contact me at 740-2741. — Cynthia, Poland

ANSWER: Excellent! These are two great opportunities to learn a new skill, add to what you already know, and meet new people. We need this right now!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: We recently purchased a house in Dixfield where several antique lamps were left behind. We would like to have them restored. Do you
know of any place that could do that for us? Any suggestions would be
greatly  appreciated. — Anne, no town

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am a retired teacher and looking for legitimate work-at-home opportunities recommended by local people. I don’t want to be scammed. I would like to teach online classes. I also have a fair amount of office administrative and computer skills and really desire to work from home, but some of the job postings I’ve seen just look too good to be true. I would love to get some tips from you and other Sun Spots readers about the best reputable on-line places to search and what to avoid. — Amy, no town

ANSWER: Indeed.com posts virtual jobs for companies you will be familiar with. If you’re 50 or older, check out the job board at AARP (https://jobs.aarp.org/).
