Karl Michael Windischhofer

LEWISTON – Karl Michael Windischhofer, 87, born on March 23, 1934, in Lewiston to Charles and Roma (Geahigan) Windischhofer, passed unexpectedly on Feb. 2, 2022.Karl was educated in a one-room school in Greene and later graduated from Lewiston High School in 1952. After high school, Karl joined the Navy and served as a torpedo and depth charge technician aboard a destroyer escort ship.After his Navy service, he attended Maine Vocational School in Portland graduating as a machinist, his occupation for the remainder of his working life. After living for several years in Connecticut, Karl returned to the family homestead in Greene where he remained and was employed locally. He had many hobbies and interests and was known for collecting and restoring antique cars and furniture. He particularly enjoyed camping and boating on Moosehead Lake. During the winter months he liked doing puzzles and games. Karl had a private pilot’s license and spent many hours flying.He was predeceased by his brother, Eric and sister-in-law, Barbara. He is survived by his sister, Diane, of Jacksonville, Fla.; his dear friend and companion, Leslie Smith; and close friend and neighbor of 50-plus years, Richard Bolduc.As per Karl’s request, there will be no end-of-life services.
