100 Years Ago: 1922

Kora Temple is being decorated for the heart-to-heart party, to be put on by committee No. 4, of the Lewiston and Auburn Shrine Club Monday evening, Feb. 13th. E. W. Nickerson, the well-known decorator, is in charge, and he is working out some novel color schemes and electrical effects. The committee is working hard for this party, and it should be one of the season’s most pleasing events. There will be so many features that the dancing will begin promptly at 8 o’clock.

50 Years Ago: 1972

Progress of the second phase of construction of the new Lewiston-Auburn bridge, involves bridges to carry the highway over the Maine Central Railroad tracks, running parallel to Main Street in Lewiston. Three supporting piers have been constructed and there’ll be more. The first phase of construction includes the bridge spans over the Androscoggin River, the second involves the railroad bridges, and the last phase will see construction of the approaches.

25 Years Ago: 1997

A fisherman from Maine won the top prize Sunday in the weekend 18th annual Great Rotary Fishing Derby, Scott Carbone, 27, of Waterboro, hauled in a 2.43-pound tagged rainbow trout out of Lake Winnisquam in New Hampshire. He won an 18-foot OMC Sunbird Neptune fishing boat powered by a 90 horsepower Evinrude outboard motor, and trailer, all valued at $16,888. Carbone is a teacher at Massabesic Junior High in Waterboro. Overall, more than $46,000 in prizes were given out among the 6,800 fishermen who took part in the two-day ice-fishing event on all state lakes. The tagged fish, however, were stocked in 11 lakes.
