DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you for spreading the word about the baked bean and casserole takeout supper at Danville Junction Grange last month, it was a huge success!  Thanks, too, to all our loyal supporters for their generosity. We will soon be able to continue with our list of repairs to the hall.

It was decided to hold a takeout bean supper, complete with apple crisp, on the third Saturday of each month through April. The next supper will be Feb. 19. To order, please call 312-5591 by Thursday, Feb. 17. Thank you all for your generous support. — No name, Auburn

ANSWER: I’m so glad the takeout meals are working out so well for you. I know it’s not the same as gathering in the grange but that should be happening again soon. I have great memories of attending those suppers with my parents. The food was always so delicious!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have a knife that needs to have the handle replaced. The blade is fine. Do you know who can do that in the L-A area? — No name, no town

ANSWER: Depending on the brand of your knife, it could have a lifetime warranty. Also, if you know the brand and the manufacturer is still in business, you could contact them and they would probably replace the handle for you. Do you happen to know?

If that’s not the case, Dereck Glaser, administrative director/metalsmithing program director, and resident blacksmith at New England School of Metalwork can certainly take care of you. You would have to drop the knife off at the school at 7 Albiston Way in Auburn. Glaser invites you to contact him at 777-3375 or at dglaser@newenglandschoolofmetalwork.com to work out the logistics.

By the way, you can read more about him and his metalsmithing journey at http://www.dereckglaser.com/.

Metal art remains his focal point, but he also pursues his interests in custom bladesmithing and metal sculpture to grow his full metalsmithing range of abilities.

His business, DG Forge, offers a wide selection and capability of interior and exterior architectural work as well as furnishings, lighting, home accessories, and gallery quality sculpture in steel, bronze and aluminum.

I wouldn’t know any of this if I hadn’t spoken with the good folks at Freeport Knife Co. They recommended I call the school in Auburn.

So you see, I learn something new nearly every day, thanks to my faithful readers.

If you know of others who can help with this request, please write in. There is always room for more of everything in the famous Rolodex.
