LEWISTON – Denis Lucien Gilbert, 59, passed away Monday, Feb. 7, 2022 at his home.He was born Jan. 27, 1963, in Azusa, California to Lucien and Beatrice (Daigle) Gilbert.Denis attended Lewiston schools, culminating with an associate’s degree from the University of Maine at Presque Isle in Social work. He began working at Jabbers Pub, which he eventually took over, before signing on to work and manage at several social-service agencies, nursing homes and shelters in the Lewiston-Auburn area over the years. However due to a degenerative back condition, he was no longer able to work full-time in the last several years, but he did occasionally bartend at a few local clubs as he enjoyed being with people. Denis was a wonderfully caring person that would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He enjoyed karaoke, playing in various leagues and spending time with his close friends at the Pastime and 20M clubs amongst others, cooking at the holidays for family and friends and most of all staying close to his mother. Denis is predeceased by his father, mother, and younger brother John Gilbert. He is survived by his oldest sister Diane Gilbert Moreau, husband David and their children Jennifer Flynn and husband Rory, Joshua Moreau and his children Lauren, Weston, and Evan, as well as his niece Maryke and nephew Martin Moreau. He’s also survived by his older brother Marc Gilbert, his wife Guat Yew and their children Alex, Jessica and Kathryn, and his sister-in-law Barbara Gilbert and her children / Denis’ nephews Justin and Bryan.Denis will certainly be missed by his family and good friends.Visitation will be 9-10 a.m., Wednesday, February 16, at The Fortin Group, 70 Horton Street, Lewiston.A funeral service will follow 10 a.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.Online condolences may be shared with his family at http://www.thefortingrouplewiston.com
