Stanley N. Kaubris

RUMFORD – Stanley N. Kaubris “Ty”, 92, passed peacefully away at the home of his daughter Sally and her husband Ed, on Porter Avenue West, surrounded and comforted by his beloved family. The youngest child of John S. and Mary (Laurusonis) Kaubris, he was born in Rumford on June 6, 1929. He attended local schools (Pettingill) and graduated from Stephens High School in 1947, excelling in football, basketball and baseball for the Panthers.Too young to enlist in the armed services for WWII, Ty opened a shoe shop in Mexico, Maine. While attending a party at his cousin’s house, he met the love of his life, Alfreda Smith. They danced around the kitchen and into each other’s lives for almost 70 years! Ty and Alfreda married on September 3, 1949. He was predeceased by his loving wife on October 11, 2017.After realizing that raising a family on a cobbler’s wages would be too challenging, Ty joined the Rumford Police Department and served tirelessly for 25 years before retiring as a sergeant in 1975. The shoe shop was moved to Roxbury Pond and became the family camp. The Kaubris family grew from Sally to Andrea and Jean, then boys Stan, Jack, Matt and Russ and a final daughter, Kristen.Following the Rumford Police Department, Ty worked for 15 years in security at Boise Cascade Paper Mill. And then finally after decades of shift work, on-call and 16’s, he retired from full-time employment and purchased a condo at King’s Point in Sun City Center, Florida as a winter getaway. Ty and Freda enjoyed many winters there but always returned in May to spend summers at Roxbury Pond, gladly welcoming family and friends to visit and stay, especially on Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day. Ty was a past Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus and served as a board member for Hope Association and Rumford Group Homes. He set an example for all of his children to live by with his hard work, dedication, perseverance, patience, importance of family and love, always love. With memories in abundance, Ty’s legacy remains with his 8 children and their spouses – Sally Kaubris and Ed Kowalzyk, Andrea Kaubris, Jean and Tim Cormier, Stan and Martha Kaubris, Jack and Mary Kaubris, Matt and Pam Kaubris, Russ and Merrianne Kaubris and Kristen McCullough.Ty is also survived by his 18 grandchildren, whom he adored – Tim (and Roz), Micah (and Jacky), Hannah (and Anthony), Moriah (and Matt), Eliza (and Josh), Allen, Shelby (and Sam), Dustin (and Jena), Mollie (and Byron), McKenzie, Madeleine (Luther), Alexa (and Joe), Cameron, Alex, Lindsey, Samantha, Delaney (and Matt) and Calleigh (and Devin).
