RUMFORD – Myrtle Milledge passed away peacefully on Feb. 15, 2022 at the Hospice House in Auburn, at the age of 106 years old.She was born on Dec. 26, 1915, the oldest child of John and Christine (Cyr) Knauer. Myrtle attended Mexico High School graduating in 1934. She married Frederick Milledge in 1936 and had four children. Her youngest child, Frederick Milledge, Jr. died in battle in Vietnam in 1968 followed by the death of her husband Frederick in 1970.Myrtle worked in the school cafeteria for many years and in later years found her calling in life by working for Androscoggin Home Health Care and Hospice. She comforted many patients along with their families in very difficult times and enjoyed helping anyone in need. She always had a gift of flowers or home-made crafts for all her patients and friends. Myrtle received several awards throughout her life for her outstanding dedication. Some of her many talents included knitting, sewing, cooking, and tending to her beautiful flower gardens. She also made lots of different crafts and helped at her granddaughter’s flower shop.She made friends easily and went on Senior trips to different places in Maine and New Hampshire. Myrtle hosted many annual family reunions at the camp at Roxbury Pond and a surprise 90th birthday party was held for her at one of the reunions. She loved spending time at the pond.She belonged to many organizations throughout her life including the Mexico Mother’s Club, Mexico Home Extension, and the Rumford/Mexico Garden Club. She also volunteered for Rumford Community Home and was a Senior Companion for Androscoggin Home Health. She was a member of the Snowshoe Club and was also a huge supporter of Veterans.Myrtle was a wonderful role model to her family and always put them first. She was a perfect example of how to age gracefully. She was an amazing people person, unselfish and thoughtful with a generous interest in others.She was a communicant of Saint Theresa’s Church.Myrtle was recently recognized as being the Oldest Patriots Fan in the world by receiving a New England Patriot Jersey with her name and the number 106 to represent her age. She also received a signed letter from Robert Krafts, the owner of the Patriots team. She enjoyed watching many sports, particularly the New England Teams.She is survived by her sons John Milledge and wife Noreen of Mexico, Robert Milledge and wife Jolene of Rumford; grandchildren Lynn LeClair, Christopher Rancourt and wife Renee, Marcia and husband John Rogers, Jamie Milledge and wife Nancy, Billy Milledge and wife June, John Milledge, Jr. and wife Vikky, Michael Milledge and wife Laurie, Stephen Milledge and wife Tammy. She is also survived by many great grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. Myrtle will be greatly missed by her family and all those who knew her.Myrtle was predeceased by her parents, John and Christine Knauer; her husband Frederick Milledge Sr.; her son Frederick Milledge, Jr., daughter Patricia MacDonald; and sisters, Barbara, Frances, Pauline, Geraldine, and Janet.The Milledge Family would like to thank the Rumford Community Home for their loving care for Myrtle throughout the years, and the Hospice House in Auburn for their wonderful care in her final days.Friends and family are invited to sign the online guest book and share memories with the family at http://www.meaderandson.com.Visiting hours will be held at the Meader & Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin St. in Rumford this Friday, Feb. 18 from 2-4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the spring.
