LEWISTON — Police charged a Lewiston middle school student with terrorizing early Friday morning after he posted a threatening message to social media Thursday evening, according to Lt. Derrick St. Laurent.
He explained that the charge is brought forward when there is evidence that an action was done with the intent of causing panic or harm.
A second unrelated threat was made to the high school. This threat was not deemed to be credible, according to Superintendent Jake Langlais.
Still, school officials bolstered police presence Friday at both the high school and middle school. Otherwise, school continued as planned.
“The world has gone through a lot these last two years,” Langlais wrote in a brief message early Friday morning. “The stress is real, the cycles of trauma are real, and not everyone has the skills or strategies to work through it. We must stay committed to supporting each other, keeping each other safe, lifting each other up, focusing on the bright spots, and as always — if you see something … say something.”
Langlais did not describe the nature of either threat in his letter.
School resource officers were especially instrumental in the investigation of the Lewiston Middle School threat, according to St. Laurent. He said Lewiston police are “really impressed” by the relationship the school resource officers have with students.
