Police arrested a Brunswick man Saturday after he allegedly threatened to blow up his mobile home, sparking a police standoff on Linnell Circle.

Officers initially went to the home around 9 a.m. for a welfare check, when Joshua Bailey, 36, allegedly poured accelerants inside his residence and showed officers through the window that he was carrying multiple knives.

Police say that the Brunswick Crisis Negotiation Team communicated with Bailey for nearly five hours. Additional officers were called in to assist and the Brunswick Fire Department also responded and stayed on site as a precaution.

“Ultimately, the male exited the residence on his own and was taken into custody without incident,” police said. “Brunswick Fire Dept. remained on scene for an extended amount of time while the threat of a possible fire was mitigated.”

No injuries were reported. Linnell Circle is part of Linnhaven Mobile Home Center, a private neighborhood off Maquoit Road.

Bailey was charged with terrorizing, a Class C felony, as well as creating a police standoff, a Class E misdemeanor. He is scheduled to appear at Cumberland County Superior Court on May 3. Class C crimes are punishable by up to 5 years incarceration and a $5,000 fine and Class E crimes are punishable by up to six months incarceration and a $1,000 fine.

Earlier on Saturday, a Brunswick communications officer told The Times Record the town put out a “code red” reverse 911 call notification to direct residents away from the standoff.

“Because of the proximity of other mobile homes, some residents were removed for their safety, while others were advised to shelter in place,” police stated.
