In 1962, as a result of the U.S.S.R. stationing nuclear missiles in Cuba, President Kennedy blockaded Cuba with warships.

Soviet Union Premier Nikita Khrushchev was told to go home and remove his missiles. For several days in October, the world stood at the brink of nuclear war, but in the end, Khrushchev backed down.

Fast forward to today. President Joe Biden should take note of the Cuban Missile Crisis. He needs to send a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin:

“Dear Vladimir: NATO has accepted Ukraine’s petition to join the organization. NATO does not want a conventional war, and a nuclear war is unwinnable and must never be fought. NATO demands that you cease hostilities immediately and enter into talks with NATO without preconditions within (insert time frame). If not, NATO is prepared to enter western Ukraine to establish a safe haven for Ukranians to receive shelter and humanitarian assistance. This will be a no-fly zone. NATO forces will not initiate hostilities but will defend themselves if attacked.

Vladimir: Are you prepared to remain a pariah state? Are the Russian people ready to scuttle all the progress they have made? Are you prepared for a second iron curtain to descend upon Europe in Ukraine?”
