Peter “Pete” Dumas

POLAND – Peter “Pete” Dumas, 66, of Poland, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston after a hard fought battle with COVID-19, with his family by his side.

He was born in Lewiston on June 16, 1955, the son of Gilbert and Pauline Dumas. He was educated in Lewiston schools and graduated from Lewiston High School. Pete held various jobs throughout the years, but deeply enjoyed his tenure at Lee Auto Mall in Auburn, first as a salesman and retiring as a service writer in 2020. He was a loyal and dedicated employee, so much so, that he continued to work there after retirement whenever he was needed. He just couldn’t say “no”. He established many friendships at Lee as a coworker, mentor, and father-figure to many.

In 1974 he married his high school sweetheart, the former Nancy Bolduc, and they were happily married for 48 years. Together they enjoyed boating, many years at Naples Marina, taking rides, day trips, and camping at the KOA campground. They were always together. One of his greatest joys was snowmobiling with his family. Recently he enjoyed traveling to Florida looking forward to early morning sunrises and evening sunsets. In January, he was lucky enough to have a family vacation in St Cloud, Cocoa Beach, New Smyrna Beach, and Orlando, Fla.

He was especially proud of his children and grandchildren and their successful careers. He always attended their sporting events, no matter how far they were. Pete was always there to help his family whenever they needed him. His family came first. He was a great friend to so many people. We often joked that he talked to everyone, whether he knew them or not. If he couldn’t remember your name, he would affectionately call you “Bud”. Pete had a great sense of humor, was quite the jokester and very quick-witted. One of his favorite hobbies was tinkering in the garage. Pete could fix mostly anything. His dog, Bella, would follow him everywhere, especially when he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be deeply and sorely missed.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; his daughter, Kim McManus and husband Daniel, his son, Kevin Dumas and partner Michael Hoye; his grandson, Coady Lagasse and partner Olivia Burke, his granddaughter, Kianna Lagasse, his step-grandchildren Matthew and James McManus; his mother, Pauline Dumas; his sister, Gail Beaule and husband Donald, his brother, Brian Dumas, his sister-in-law, Suzanne Morin; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, Gil Dumas, his in-laws Normand and Pauline Bolduc; and his brother-in-law, Ronald Morin.

The family would like to thank St. Mary’s ICU physicians, Dr. Bagley and Dr. Ghosh, nurses, CNAs and respiratory therapists for providing exceptional care to Pete, doing all they could to save him.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday March 11 at Albert and Burpee Funeral Home, 253 Pine St., Lewiston followed by a service at 3 p.m. Memories may be shared at http://www.albert-burpee.com.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
