DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m looking for someone who would come to my home to help do my income taxes. — No name, no town

ANSWER: I don’t have anyone in the Rolodex, but perhaps a reader has a professional, certified tax preparer they can recommend. I want to be very careful with recommending anyone to come into a person’s home, especially when it comes to handling a reader’s finances and personal information such as Social Security numbers, etc. SeniorsPlus may also be able to help you with a referral. The number is 795-4010.

If you have a computer or have a friend or relative who could bring their laptop over, you can get virtual help through AARP. The link is https://taxaideqa.aarp.org/hc/en-us . You don’t need to be a member of AARP. This is free income tax preparation service for low/moderate income taxpayers for the 2022 filing season.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The First Universalist Church of Auburn, Unitarian Universalist, has opened a warming shelter Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We’re finding that some of the unmet needs for those folks in the community, in addition to a warm place, a good meal, blankets, etc. is that there are few options for the ability to do laundry.

If there is someone out there who has a washer and/or dryer in good condition, we would like to make this available for folks to do their laundry while they are getting warm and having a good meal.

The other item we are looking for is a small upright freezer. We have a substantial volunteer group cooking meals and providing items for those meals but have very little storage space. If there are readers in Sun Spots Land with a washer, dryer, small upright freezer they no longer need, we would be most appreciative. Please contact Peter Floyd at 333-1476. — Virginia, no town

ANSWER: Perhaps someone doing a remodel, downsizing, or moving will be able to help. Please let us know what happens and if you have any other needs, Sun Spots is here for you!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: About a month ago, my husband lost his ring during a visit to a doctor at Central Maine Medical Center. We called the hospital’s lost and found department and a worker named Belinda had found the ring in the wheelchair my husband had used that day and turned it in. Thank you, Belinda! The ring was given to Andy on our 40th anniversary. This year we will be married 67 years. — Danielle, no town

ANSWER: I’m so glad you had a happy ending to this episode!
