Richard ‘Dick’ Demers Sr.

AUBURN – On Thursday, March 24, 2022, with the deepest grief, the entire Demers family mourned the loss of their so loved husband, dad, grandfather and great-grandfather.Dick was born in Auburn, Maine on Sept. 5, 1939 to Ray and Anna Champagne Demers. Dick married Myrna Anderson Demers in 1958. Their love story began in their sophomore year at Edward Little High School where they stood next to each other in the drum section of the band, both graduating in 1957. They married in 1958. During almost 67 years together, they brought into this world 5 children, all of whom were so deeply loved. One of his sons, David Ray Demers passed away on May 10, 1981. During Dick’s last months, he seemed to be reaching out to him.Dick was widely known, loved and respected as a living legend in the music world. He was an instructor in drumming to close to a thousand or more students, many going on to great success as drummers, played in many of Maine’s most prominent bands, wrote and published a drum instruction book, “Beginning of No End to Control” which was sold throughout the U.S. and beyond.In addition to his beloved wife Myrna, he also leaves behind his children, all of whom he adored and was extremely proud of … Cindy Demers Baril (Larry) of Auburn, Richard “Rick” Demers Jr., (Sandy) of Greene, Randy Demers (Polly) of Lewiston, and Jody Demers (Jenn) of Lewiston; two sisters, Anita (Demers) Olko and Joanne (Demers) Fuller. Nine grandchildren, Chad Baril, Kimberly (Baril) Guay, Shannon (Demers) Daigle, Ryan Demers, Scott Demers, Dawna Demers, Jon Demers, David Demers and Alex Demers and 17 great-grandchildren.He was predeceased by his parents, his son David and his brother, Raymond Demers Jr.Visitation will be on Sunday, March 27 at The Fortin Group, 217 Turner St., Auburn, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 28, at 11 a.m., at The Fortin Group, 217 Turner St., Auburn.In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Androscoggin Hospice House, 236 Stetson Rd.,Auburn, ME 04210in Dick’s memory.
