DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for a quilting group for a nonprofit organization. I wish to donate some quilting scraps to them. These scraps are from projects I have done and I don’t throw them away because I know someone can use them, and because that’s the way I am! I have a bag of assorted sizes, colors and designs. If there is a quilting group out there that can use them, I can be contacted at 577-4271. — Charlotte, Auburn

ANSWER: Get ready for the phone calls — and let us know what happens!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Regarding the person looking for embroidered hankies (March 31 Sun Spots), I have quite a few. If she’d like them I would be happy to give them to her so please give her my e-mail address. That would be great. — No name, no town

ANSWER: I was hopeful that this would happen. Readers helping readers is what makes Sun Spots truly special. I am here to facilitate these types of connections whenever possible.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Recently I have been getting at least 100 pornographic emails in my spam inbox every day.  Of course I mass-delete them, but I’m curious if there are others experiencing this.

I have called my computer tech and asked if there can be a blocker installed to get rid of this trash and he said, unfortunately not.

I use Google and Gmail. My computer guy says that Google is doing a good job as these emails are at least going to my spam mail. I would appreciate input on this for a solution. Perhaps if Google knew that this was going on, they could do something to block them completely.

I realize that I can just delete them, but it is so upsetting to me. I’m also curious as to how they got my email address. By the way, I am also on Facebook. I would appreciate any input that you and other readers can give me. — No name, no town

ANSWER: Google is doing the job since these unwanted emails are going to spam. I talked with my computer tech and she advised that you can select the emails then click on the shaded circle to the right where there are three dots. You will see choices there including “block,” “report spam” and “report phishing.” Select all of these and it may help.

Also, be careful what you “like” on Facebook. Make sure your Facebook page is set to “Friends” not “Public.” You may want to change your Facebook password for good measure. Don’t “like” commercial memes when you don’t know who created them. The computer tech said that sometimes your information can get on a list that can be seen and sold through these memes.

The only other thing I can suggest is to start over with a new email account.

If this issue has happened with other readers and you have found good solutions, please let us know. It’s a crazy world, and we should be able to have peace of mind and only share our personal information with who we want to, but sadly things no longer work that way. There are steps you can take though and professionals who can help.
