Bates College goalie Cammie Lavoie’s outstanding performance against Hamilton earned her Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association National Defensive Player of the Week.

The junior from New Hampshire matched her career-high with 13 saves and posted a season-best .520 save percentage in a 13-12 upset against the nationally ranked No. 12 Continentals at Garcelon Field in Lewiston. Earlier in the week, she recorded nine saves against rival No. 14 Bowdoin on the road.

Lavoie is the first Bobcat to earn IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week honors since Eliza Statile on March 6, 2019. Bates’ win over Hamilton was the first NESCAC victory of new head coach Renee Olsen’s career.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL
CMCC’s HERRICK HONORED: Central Maine Community College pitcher Avery Herrick has been named USCAA Women’s Softball Player of the Week after leading the Mustangs (17-9-1) to four victories with stellar performances in the circle and batter’s box.

Herrick had a .455 batting average last week while driving in six runs and scoring nine. She finished with five hits, including two doubles, and stole one base.

She also pitched eight innings, had 15 strikeouts and ended the week with a perfect fielding percentage.

BATES SWEEPS UMF: The Bobcats (7-11) glided past the Beavers (1-15) with 5-3 and 13-6 victories in Farmington.

UMF tried to rallied in the fifth inning to tie the first game at 2-2 when Olivia Paradis belted a two-run single. But Bates erupted with three runs in the top of seventh highlighted by Janell Sato’s two-run double. The Bobcats’ Eliza McNulty had two hits in the game, and pitcher Maggie Hillwig earned the win.

The Bobcats unloaded on the Beavers with a 20-hit attack in Game 2. Grace Householter went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs. Kennedy Ishii went 3-for-4 and brought home three runs. UMF’s Makayla Wilson went 3-for-4 at the plate.

Bates pitcher Danielle Polirer went the distance to pick up the win.

COLLEGE BASEBALL
COLBY 25, UMF 3: The Mules (12-5) rolled over the Beavers (4-14) with a 20-hit attack in Farmington.

Charles Furlong had two hits, including a home run, to drive in drive in five runs for Colby. Clint Flippo and Cole Palmeri each drove in four runs. The White Mules’ biggest outburst came in the sixth inning with a six-hit assault.

Hunter LaBossiere went 3-for-4 and Ryan Sargent homered for the Beavers.
