To the Editor:
I discovered this weekend that our local movie theater, The Gem, requires a vaccine ID to attend a movie.
Perhaps they haven’t updated their policy yet, since we all know by now that whether you are vaccinated or not, you can still contract COVID, and still pass it on. Hence, by requiring a vaccine ID, and not also accepting a negative COVID test, they are actually passing a judgment on those who chose to not be vaccinated, rather than instating an effective safety protocol.
Logically, a negative COVID test for all would be the only comprehensive safety protocol, as anyone walking in the door with just a vaccine ID could also be recently infected with COVID and not yet know it, and subsequently infect others.
Here’s to keeping independent critical thinking and a diverse source of media news coverage alive and well.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
