BATES AND BOWDOIN SPLIT: A three-run bottom of the seventh gave the Bobcats a 9-8 victory over the Polar Bears in Game 1 of Friday’s doubleheader in Lewiston.

After Emily Samar scored on an error in the seventh, a Rachel Liazo single scored two to cap the first game. Liazo also had another single in the first game. Sarah Cooke had a home run and a double. Janell Sato and Lindsay Kim each had a home run and drove in two runs.

Angelina Mayers had a grand slam for Bowdoin the top of the second. JK Bradley drove in a run on a single in the second and hit a homer in the third for the Polar Bears. Lily Armstrong and Kasey Cunningham each had two hits and drove in a run.

Mayers had a three-run double in the top of the sixth in Game 2 for the Polar Bears (11-13) in a 8-2 win over the Bobcats (8-12). She had three hits in the game.

Katryna Dukehart had a two-run home run in the top of the fourth for Bowdoin. She also had a single. Karlye Pallotta had a pair of hits and scored a run for Bowdoin.

Sato had a single in the bottom of the third and the bottom of the fifth which each scored a run. Cooke had three singles.

HUSSON BROOMS UMF: The Beavers became the latest team to be shut down by Eagles ace McKenna Smith, who opened the doubleheader in Farmington with a no-hitter in a 9-0 win.

Smith, who has won 10 straight decisions, struck out 18 and didn’t allow any walks in seven innings. Husson catcher Meagan Gosselin, a Lewiston graduate, went 2 for 5 at the plate with a double, and RBI and a run. Kate Windsor led the Eagles offense with three hits and three RBIs. Smith added a double and scored twice.

The Beavesr (1-17, 0-2 NAC) tallied three hits and two runs in the second game, which Husson won 6-2.

Leah Stevens, Makayla Wilson and Mackenzie Dyer (double) had UMaine-Farmington’s hits, and Lisbon graduate Kiley Merritt and Stevens scored runs.

Both of the Beavers runs were scored in the bottom of the first. Eagles starter Jen Jones shut UMF down for the next six innings, striking out eight and not allowing any walks.

Kenzie Dore led Husson’s offense with two hits and two RBIs.

COLLEGE BASEBALL
COLBY 15, BATES 4: Clint Flippo, Patrick McConnell and Genki LeClair each had two hits and drove in two runs to lead the Mules (14-6) in a win over the Bobcats (6-17) in Lewiston.

Cabot Mahar had three hits for Colby including a double and drove in a run. Charlie Furlong belted two hits in the win. Coly had a five-run third inning and a four-run seventh inning.

Drew Fallon had two hits and drove in two runs for Bates. Christoper Cimino and Ben Genser had two hits and drove in a run. Bryan Gotti had notched a double and a single while Ben Gesmondi had two hits in the loss.

MAINE 12, ALBANY 10: Scott Knotts hit a grand slam in the first inning and the University of Maine baseball team beat Albany in an America East game on Friday in Albany, New York.

Jordan Schulefand added a two-run home run in the fourth inning for Maine, which improves to 13-14 overall and 10-3 in the conference. Schufeland was 3 for 6.

Trevor LaBonte pitched six innings, allowing five runs on 10 hits to earn this third win of the season.

Michael Whalen had a three-run home run and a two-run single for Albany. Chris Fisher drove in a pair of runs.
