Franklin “Bud” R. McAlister

AUBURN – Franklin “Bud” R. McAlister, 89, of Danville passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn.

Bud was born Dec. 26, 1932 in New Portland, Maine. He was the son of the late Herbert W. and Nancy (Wiliamson) McAlister. Growing up in Danville he was educated in Auburn schools, graduating from Edward Little High School in 1951. He joined the Army National Guard from 1950-1958 in Auburn for six years, and two in California. He was honorably discharged as Sgt. Franklin R. McAlister in 1958.

Bud worked at B. Peck Company in Lewiston from 1951 to 1955, then moving to Los Angeles, Calif. in 1956, where he worked for C.F. Braun Engineering Company until 1958. Returning to Maine in 1958 he sold insurance for Boston Mutual. Bud moved back to California in 1960 to work for C.F. Braun again. Not returning home until 1988, when he started working for BIW performing computer cad work, retiring in 1998.

Bud loved to sing, in California he sang in the church choir as well as the local community choir.  In 1985 he sang with the Billy Graham choir, upon his return to Maine he sang with the Delta Hearts Choir. He was also well involved in the community, he being a member of the Danville Union Church, and Danville Junction Grange #65, where he was a janitor for many years.

Franklin, also revered as “Uncle Bud”, is survived by his sister, Joyce MacDonald of Poland, his sister-in-law Eleanor McAlister of Fairbanks, Alaska; his nieces Sharon Albiston (Charles) of Auburn, Karen McAlister of Fairbanks, Alaska, his nephews, William Redmun Jr. of Auburn, Brian Redmun (Dale) of Lewiston, Scott Redmun Sr. (Kim) of Turner and Timothy McAlister of Fairbanks, Alaska; as well as many grand nieces and nephews plus several great-grand nieces and nephews.

Bud was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Warren McAlister and his sister Marilyn Redmun.

At his request there will be no visiting hours. A funeral service will be held at 11 a on April 27 followed by a burial at Gracelawn Memorial Cemetery at noon. In care of The Fortin Group Auburn, 217 Turner St.
