LEWISTON — A 24-year-old woman was taken to the hospital after she was shot early Thursday morning.
Around 1:30 a.m., Lewiston Police responded to an apartment house on Arch Avenue for a report of a shooting and found the woman with a gunshot. Her identity has not been released. She was transported to Central Maine Medical Center where she remained in serious condition, according to a statement from the Lewiston Police Department.
The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit is assisting in the investigation. Technicians remained at the scene Thursday afternoon, gathering evidence and conducting interviews in and around the home.
No motive for the shooting was offered by police. Neighbors said Arch Avenue, which runs between Main and Cottage streets, is typically peaceful, although there are occasional fights and domestic disturbances.
By early Thursday night, it was unknown if any arrests had been made in the case.
