George Eugene Karkos

LISBON – George Eugene Karkos, 94, passed away peacefully at his home on April 29, 2022.

He attended Lisbon High school, and at age 17 was drafted into the U.S Navy and served in WWII. During his time in the war, he was deployed to places such as, London, Germany, Egypt, and Istanbul. After serving in the war, he was honorably discharged and returned home where he finished high school.

George became a Maine State liquor inspector, where he served as an undercover agent with the F.B.I. He owned the State Hotel and Nightclub located in Brunswick, where he enjoyed listening to the live bands and meeting new people. After selling the State Hotel and Nightclub he became the General Sales Manager at Goodwin Chevrolet in Brunswick, until retirement in 1980.

While retired, he continued to work for the Iris Network. He and his wife, Beryl, of 64 years married, as of April 12, enjoyed traveling in the winter months to tropical places. George was a lifetime member of the American Legion and The Slovak Catholic Association. George had a passion for stock car racing with his family on the weekends. He was an avid outdoorsman. George enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends, especially his two sons and grandchildren.

George is survived by his wife, Beryl (Fraser) Karkos; daughter Pamela Lizotte and husband John of Durham, son George (Tony) Karkos and his wife Sharron of Litchfield, son Ryan Karkos and wife Monica of Bath; grandchildren Joshua Lizotte and significant other Tia Grover, Shane Lizotte and wife Danielle, Matthew Hynes and wife Amanda, Anthony Karkos and wife Liz, Brittany Karkos and fiancé Alex Wear, Brandon Karkos, and Kyle Karkos; great-grandchildren Brycen, Bentley, Alivia, Clayton, Ava, and soon to be arriving great-granddaughter.

He was predeceased by his parents George F. Karkos and Annie M. Karkos.
