WALES — Oak Hill scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to defeat Winthrop 3-2 victory in Mountain Valley Conference baseball action Saturday.

Catcher Isaac Morrisette had two RBIs and one hit for the Raiders (2-4), while Landon Bangs drove in one run. Kyle Delano doubled and singled at the plate and pitched all eight innings on the mound to earn the win, striking out eight batters and allowing only five hits.

The teams were tied 1-1 after seven innings. Winthrop (6-2) took the lead with a run in the top of the eighth before Oak Hill plated two in the bottom half of the inning.

Brayden Stubbert had a double and a single for the Ramblers. He also drove in a run, as did Andrew Foster, and Brayden Branagan scored scored both of Winthrop’s runs. Foster pitched seven-plus innings, striking out 10 and scattering six hits.

WELLS 13, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 4: The Warriors (3-4) pulled ahead with five runs in the top of the second on their way to a victory over the Patriots (3-5) in Gray.

Zach Carpenter had a home run, a double and three RBIs for Wells, while Spencer Carpenter and Santiago Fitch-Cury both had two hits.

Ian Libby went 4 for 4 with two RBIs for Gray-New Gloucester.

SOFTBALL
WINTHROP 4, OAK HILL 2: Lydia Rice and Maddie Perkins each had two hits in the Ramblers’ win in 10 innings over Oak Hill (3-3) in Wales.

Lauryn Wood had nine strikeouts in the circle for Winthrop.

The Ramblers (4-3) scored two runs in the top of the sixth, tying the game at 2-2. Winthrop scored twice more in the top of the 10th.

Oak Hill took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Amara Denis drove in both runs. She had three hits in the game, while Sierra Lane had two hits.

GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 13, WELLS 9: Heather Nevells had two triples and four RBIs and the Patriots (2-6) scored three runs in the fifth inning and five in the sixth to beat the Warriors (2-5) in Gray.

Morgan Curtis, Caitlin Taylor and Maisie Lerrette had two hits each for Gray-New Gloucester (2-6). Skye Chandler added a two-run double.

Chloe Carbonneau went 3 for 4 and scored three runs for Wells, while Delani Brown had a double and single, knocking in a pair of runs.

ST. DOM’S SWEEPS MT. VIEW: The Saints (7-0) took both five-inning games from the Mustangs (2-4), winning the first game 9-1 and the second 6-1 in Auburn.

Kathleen Dean pitched a gem in the opener, striking out 12 and allowing one hit in five innings.

The Saints’ offense opened the first game scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning and adding two more in the second. They tacked on three more runs in the fourth.

Sidney Dick had three hits for the Saints, while Cami Casserly, and Bella Perryman each had multiple hits in the win. Dean stole three bases, and the Saints as a team swiped 12.

Mt. View scored its run in the top of the third.

In the second game, Dean had a double to drove in two runs in a five-run top of the fifth inning.

Casserly had two hits in the game and Perryman stole three bases. As the team, the Saints had nine stolen bases.

Dean earned the win again, allowing one run on six hits and striking out 10.

St. Dom’s took a 1-0 lead in the fourth and Mt. View tied the game in the bottom of the fourth.

BOYS LACROSSE
EDWARD LITTLE 10, MCI/NOKOMIS 2: Tyler Smith scored five goals and had four assists in the Red Eddies’ (1-4) win over the MCI/Nokomis (0-3) in Newport.

Andrew Clements and Wesley Clements each had two goals for Edward Little. Milo Small also scored.

Camden Roy scored in the first quarter for MCI/Nokomis and Hunter Simpson scored in the second.

TENNIS
SINGLES REGION QUALIFIERS: Eleven area players qualified for the state singles championships at the Region 4 qualifiers in Lewiston.

Edward Little’s Mya Vincent, the girls top seed, advanced with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Winthrop’s Olivia Vance in the second round. Other area girls players advancing are Lewiston’s Libby Forgues and Emma Omiecinzki, Winthrop’s Sophie Blanco and Mt. Blue’s Grace Bell.

The region’s top-seeded boys player, Mt. Blue’s Bernardo Tovar, defeated Spruce Mountain’s Jaziah Lavoie 6-2, 6-1 to earn his spot at the state championships, which start May 20 at Lewiston High school. Also advancing are Edward Little’s Jonah Chen and Lucas Pawlina, Lewiston’s Gavin Bavis and Mt. Blue’s James Stinson and Carson Zundel.
