The outing last Saturday was lots of fun. Debbie and Owen Brown and I went to Longfellow’s Greenhouses, Gingerbread Farm and Hummingbird Farm. It was all well worth the ride. I just love the adventures with those two and am grateful.

Have you ever wondered who came up with the idea of particle board? It was Max Himmelheber, who was born April 24, 1904 (1904-2000) in Karlsruhe, Germany, the city near where I grew up.

His parents owned a small furniture company and he grew up with six siblings in a progressive thinking household. He became an electrical engineer and, after realizing that only about 40% of the wood in his parent’s carpentry business was actually used, he came up with the particle chipboard in 1932.

In all he had about 70 patents in his name. I thought it was an interesting tidbit to share.
