I have been carefully watching, with concern, the community discussion about Regional School Unit 16’s attempt to educate the voters about Question 2 in the June 14 referendum vote.

There appears to be a concerted effort by some public officials from Poland and Minot to make the school budget process harder. From my observations they want the school budget to have more scrutiny than their own municipal budgets.

I have just finished reading the informational flier published by the RSU 16 School Board and see this choice as a no brainer. Vote “yes” and continue to bog down the budgeting process for the school budget, or vote “no” and allow the school district to gain the advantages listed in the flier.

Like the towns of Poland and Minot at town meetings, voters can ask budget questions and receive answers during the annual district budget meeting, where the budget is finalized. It makes no sense to me that these public officials want RSU 16 to use the least inefficient process, when they chose otherwise for their own budgets.

Stop the hypocrisy. I will vote no for Question 2 and encourage all other RSU 16 voters to do the same.

Give RSU 16 a fighting chance to get the best applicants available early in the hiring season.
