100 Years Ago: 1922
Employees of the Cushman-Hollis Shoe Co. of Auburn are to descend en masse on Tacoma Lake Saturday. It is the annual outing and more than 1000 are expected to be present. A dozen special cars have been engaged from the A&K for the day. An elaborate list of sports and entertainment have been arranged under the direction of Norman P. Littlefield and Harry F. Ford. Featuring the day will be the ballgame in the afternoon. There will be dancing for dancing in the pavilion. There will be a box lunch and shore dinner served at noon.
50 Years Ago: 1972
(From a Journal photo) To be surveyed for their history and architecture are several large tenement buildings in the Little Canada section of Lewiston. The Lewiston Historical Commission is doing the work this summer and hopes to publish a booklet later this year depicting the history of the city through the architecture. The most prominent of architectural features still visible on Oxford Street, are the many hoods over the front doorsteps. Many are quite ornate like the one shown. Their use was quite widespread in the last century and some identical hood ornaments have been found in other towns such as Sabattus
25 Years Ago: 1997
(from a Sun Journal photo) Parent educator Nancy Reynolds of Advocates for Children and the Parent Resource Center was a recent guest speaker at Auburn-Lewiston Kiwanis Club. She noted that every parent has questions and needs support at times, and the center is a place to visit to talk, learn and share information about being a parent.
