DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Center for Wisdom’s Women in Lewiston is hoping that among Sun Spots readers is a woman who would like to join our team as a volunteer companion.

We need someone on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Companions are women with backgrounds in social work, teaching or similar backgrounds. Our companions provide a non-judgmental and caring listening presence for the women who drop in. They are simply present when someone needs to talk.

The center is in downtown Lewiston and is free and open to all women. Our volunteer coordinator, Sonia Turgeon, would love to speak with anyone who is interested in helping. She can be reached at 513-3922 or at soniat@wisdomswomen.org. — Pat, no town

ANSWER: This is a wonderful volunteer opportunity for the right person. Among my readers, a few of you immediately come to mind!

The Center was envisioned and started by Sisters Irene Arsenault, Mona Guerrette and Maureen Hurley, of the order of The Daughters of Wisdom, a Roman Catholic Religious Community. Originally named Wisdom’s Center, it opened in 1999. I hope you will take a moment to read about the Center’s history and review other information at https://wisdomswomen.org/the-centers-story/. There you will find the beautiful, inspiring story about what those involved with the Center have accomplished over their 20-plus years. If you wish to donate to this non-profit, there is more information and a form here: https://wisdomswomen.org/give/

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am hoping Sun Spots and its readers can assist me. I have women’s and men’s clothing that I would like to consign or have them purchased outright. Can you list names of local consignment shops where this can be accomplished? — No name, Auburn

ANSWER: In the Rolodex, I have Juliet’s Resale Boutique at 12 Village St. in Lisbon (https://www.facebook.com/julietsresaleboutique/, 717-2884); Finders2Keepers at 867 Sabattus Road in Sabattus (no web site or phone number is listed); Kargos at 4 School St. in Freeport (https://www.facebook.com/Kargosfreeportmaine/, 869-6088); Gypsy Rags at 27 Bow St., also in Freeport (https://www.facebook.com/gypsyragsme/, 865-7078); Discover On Maine at 212D Maine St. in Brunswick (https://www.discoveronmaine.com/, 798-5500); Estilo at 153A Park Row (the Pumpkin House) in Brunswick; and J’Adore Consignment at 190 Front St. in Bath (https://www.facebook.com/jadoreconsignment/, 443-5600.

Please keep in mind that most of these shops accept only women’s clothing. Some specialize in vintage clothing and all of them expect your consignments to be in tip-top condition. Be sure to call ahead so you’re certain about what the different shops are accepting at this time and to make an appointment if needed. There are many consignment shops further afield and the fun part is that each are different and have their own features and style.

Readers, if you would like to recommend other consignment shops, please let us know.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I would like to get in touch with the person in charge of the memorial stones at Veterans Memorial Park. I need to give him some information. — Gladys, Lewiston

ANSWER: You can contact Jerry Dewitt at 576-0376. He’s a very helpful person and does a great job with this project. If anyone has questions, you may also find answers if you go to the City’s website (https://www.lewistonmaine.gov/) and put “Veterans” in the search bar.
