DEAR SUN SPOTS: Senior College at the University of Southern Maine Lewiston-Auburn College needs people to act as host for Zoom classes this coming year. Volunteers are needed from September 2022 through May 2023 for those comfortable with computers and interested in helping with Zoom outreach to homebound seniors.

There are two types of Zoom classes needing hosts. The first is hybrid classes. The instructor, some students, and the host will meet in a classroom at USM-LAC in Lewiston. Other students will be present on Zoom. The host will set up a computer and auxiliary equipment owned by Senior College in the classroom to enable homebound students to interact with the class.

The second is for Zoom only classes. The host will use their computer at home for a class where the instructor and all students are on Zoom.

There will be training sessions for each type of host after Aug. 5. There will be backup help for the first few classes.

In addition to the satisfaction of helping homebound seniors remain part of our vibrant Senior College and the satisfaction of learning new skills, every host will be entitled to one tuition-free class of their choice. Hosts are not charged a fee for any class that they host.

Many seniors have benefited from our Zoom classes during the COVID epidemic. Some wish to return to in-person classes and some feel taking a class from home better suits their needs. We at the Senior College want to make it possible for all to enjoy our classes. With the help of host volunteers, it has been done with success so far, but we need more help.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for an organization that will be holding a yard/garage sale with tables to rent. I have items I would like to sell, but do not live on a yard sale friendly street.
