Russell M. Gallant

CHELSEA – Russell M. Gallant, loving son, brother, uncle, and godfather, passed away June 21, 2022 at the age of 66.

Russell was born in Cirencester, England July 29, 1955 to Nina E.R. and the late Allan F. Gallant. Russell moved to the United States when he was an infant; residing on High Street in Rumford most of his life.

Russell attended Rumford and Portland Schools, later enlisting in the U.S. Army. Persevering through several health challenges he was presented with in his adult life, Russell was able to live life on his own terms with the help he received from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Russell truly enjoyed the many vehicles he owned throughout his life along with a couple of Harley Davidson motorcycles along the way. Russell was a very social and outgoing person who enjoyed the company of family and friends and cherished the time he spent at his camp on Worthley Pond in Peru. Russell will be remembered as a kind and generous person who was always willing to help a friend in need.

During the time he spent at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Augusta, he was known to pay for the haircuts of the residents who were unable to pay on their own, providing money for the bingo prizes, and to buy candy to be placed at the front desk.

The family would like to thank the many caregivers at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Augusta and the hospice unit at the Togus VA Medical Center. The family would also like to thank his close friends that were true to him ‘til the end.
