Rita (Miliard, Caux) Castonguay

LEWISTON – On June 24 2022, Rita (Miliard, Caux) Castonguay passed away after a long and fruitful life. Born on Feb 5, 1923 to Marie-Anne and Albert Caux, Rita lived her entire life in the Lewiston area.Like so many others born to French Canadian immigrants, she worked in the textile factories during and after the war. After a 40 year career at Pepperell Mill, she served the St Peter and Paul Parish by cooking for the Dominican brothers.In 1946 she married John Miliard (1921-1985) and remarried in 1993 to Henri Castonguay (1923-2004) Although Rita was a very private person, she always loved having her family and grandchildren over for her signature dinners of ham or lobster. She is survived by her son Gene Miliard and his wife Ann-Marie, their children Michael, Noelle (Thomas Petithuguenen) and Celeste Bannock (Brandon) and their grandchildren Penny, Archie, Everett, and Martin; her daughter Rachel Robb (Bruce) and their children Gordon (Christina) and Patricia and their grandchild Bruce, and Sandy Leone (Anthony) and Sandy’s children Tyler Jellison, Troy Jellison(Valerie) and Tanna Hill (Ryan). With her remarriage to Henri Castonguay in 1993 Rita became stepmother to five wonderful adult children who were incredibly supportive to her in her later years. Dennis and his wife Suzanne, Paul and his wife Judy, Anne and her husband Gary Simmons, Pierre and his wife Ruth, Andy and his significant other Dolly and their many children and grandchildren.As Rita’s health declined, she was supported by many people but special mention must go to Connie Caux, her niece and to Georgette Caux who together spent countless hours with her.All family members owe a great gratitude to Sandy for all the care and support she gave to Rita.
